future national venues

Postby KathynotB14 » Tue Jul 12, 2011 1:42 pm

having just had the best nationals it is easy to get conpmact about looking forward however tony seruoily pulled this one out of the hat and saved us from not having a venue.

to prevent this happening again we need to get on and book our national venues for the next 3 years now!

so could everyone think about loactions ( realistc please we are still a comparably small fleet so the big places wont have us) aproch sailing secs and enqiure if there is potentoial for us. the more people we have working on this the better.

let me know ideas/ results please.

k

ps. for example lyme is booked up several years ahead!

Rock Sailing Club North Cornwall have just held the 505 nats, at sea, apparently good event, lovely area, loads of camping B&B...
Exe Sailing Club, just down from Starcross but sail Champs at Sea, challenging since not only open water, but still quite tidal, lots of accommodation locally. (they've done RS and other champs in recent years)
Teign Corrinthian have run some pretty big events as well, same water as Exe as a few miles west...
Torbay/Paignton SC's sail in the bay, both have experience of running champs, sailing water pretty fine as well...

Soemthing with yet more of a West Country flavour to it

Copy of email to Exe, Torbay, Paigntion, T-Corinthian, Rock.....and roll!

Dear fellow sailors,
I am emailing on behalf of the B14 class association. As you may know we have just completed this years event at Porthpean which attracted 28 boats and was a huge success.
We are looking for a venue for next year or 2013 and wonder if you might be able to host our championships?

We have a new class builder and supplier (Synthesize Yachts and Seavolution Ltd) and we feel that the class in is something of a renaissance with a prediction of at least as many boats attending next years Champs as did this year.

I would love it as I sail a B14 from SYC and know just how good our sailing is here!

Kind regards

So Rock gets a clear vote (which means a new boat...) from me. Is a little bit of a mission to the sailing area, but great area for sailing/beer/pasties/surfing/windsurfing... etc.

Whitstable obviously, spare mast supply permitting.

Porthpean again in a couple of years, because I missed it and I like the place.

Lee on Solent.

Brightlingsea (if <30 kt).

Somewhere in Torbay (paignton, brixham, torquay)

Falmouth area... Restronguet?

Castle Cove (post Olympics busy-ness)?

Just putting it out there:

Lymington / Warsash (a Solent based event)
Eastbourne
Felixstowe
Abersoch / Pwllheli or Cardiff

I'm making some enquiries into my club at Netley SC to see what the Calendar and possibilities - but it maybe a better open meeting venue?

A solent based event would be good, as would felixstowe, (I can sort that out with contacts if its an option)

But happy to go anywhere with flat (deep) water good beer and near by camping

Have spoken to the Sailing Committee via email at Netley SC...in principle they are interested...they wanted to know what kinda dates we're looking at for Nationals. Failing that the offer is on the table for Open Meetings, if we can rally 20 boats then there are no costs.
