Perth will be great - awesome sailing conditions, and it's also home (well it will be in 5 weeks time, no travelling for me!)

Anyone know what club they are planning on being run from?

I believe the proposed venue is the Perth Dinghy Sailing Club

http://www.perthsailing.org.au/PDSC/Welcome.html

Likely dates will be as in previous years i.e. start with Aus titles just after Xmas with Worlds first week of Jan 2012.

Photos from 08/09 I14 Aus titles to excite us all....

If the downwind is anything like the windy days at Hobart or Carnac, it will be fantastic sailing & I hear it should be windy :-)
Whilst my boat is for sale, I'd definitely come back for this if I can

I won't be able to escape work at that time of year but there's a fair chance I'll be redundant by then so here's hoping..!!

Hi Tom,

Tentative dates fro the 2012 Worlds at Perth Dinghy Sailing Club pending granting of river time are Jan 2nd thru Jan 11th.

River time allocations for 2012 will be granted later this year. Our application was submitted in February 2010.

Bangers, sounds great.

For those who don't know anything about Perth head to www.westernaustralia.com and for the pomms especially, it is officially Australia's sunniest capital city. 8)

The Fremantle Doctor (name of the local seabreeze) is sweet, consistant as gravity - watch that one come back and bite me in the arse

Definately worth the trip

Perth is a great place to sail over the summer period very consistent winds and lovely warm water temps so the Worlds should be good.

Nice to her that there is another B14 in the West Drew as I am down in Albany, WA competing the B14.

If we can not get water time in Perth, the club I sail at in Albany would love to host another Worlds event.

Only thing stopping me from going would be the fact it conflicts with another national championships i will be sailing, its a tough one but i sometimes reckon worlds could possibly be better if held slightly outside the christmas/newyears period so more people could jump in and have a crack and allow them to campaign in a couple of classes. I dunno maybe worth thinking about, I know quite a few people who wouldnt miss the class they normally sail in nationals at chrissie but would love to sail a worlds at a big event. Dunno what other people think about it but may draw more people???

Also, if it were possible to move it later more people with families may be able to attend as it would avoid Xmas/New Year
Move it all the way to Feb and I'd try to get out there!

I can see where your coming from and in some ways.

I think an advantage of having it at that time is because it coincides with uni and school holidays and also people tend to save up/have extra time off around christmas anyway. If people are taking time off at christmas to be with family...they arent necessarily going to have time again in feb to take off, i know a lot of workplaces here wouldnt be that accomodating. People would tend to combine it with a family holiday...that was the initial idea behind the crews union to have it as a family event, and i did hear rumors of having a bus in perth to do day type trips to take the families to the beach, etc. Fair enough it is difficult to get overseas with family, but we can't run an event in AUS, to cater for overseas people and then have no aussie boats turn up...theres more chance of getting 30 aus boats, i dont think changing it would mean 3 containers rocking up.

I also cant see a reason why they should be changed to allow for competing in another class...could become difficult trying to balance all the different possibilities of different classes. Which other class would you make available...i can think of about 4 or 5 where people would think of competing apart from the B.
Not trying to cause controversy...just including the other point of view.
I know i wont be able to make it to this year's nats due to work commitments but have decided to prioritise the worlds over it.

The organisation already gone into perth means i dont think there will be a change...a lot of work booking harbour times and all with other classes wanting it. But it is something to think of in the future. For us all on the eastern coast of aus the worlds may as well be overseas looking at the distance to perth...im planning to drive and anticipating it taking 3-4 days!
